These Are the 3 Joann Fabrics Stores in Maine That Will Close
In January 2025, Joann Fabrics shoppers got a punch in the gut when the company declared bankruptcy for a second time and announced that it planned to close 500 stores nationwide. Three of those stores are here in Maine.

According to Maine Biz, Joann Fabrics said it faces “significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment, which, coupled with our current financial position and constrained inventory levels, have forced us to take this step."
Those challenges in the retail environment are likely competition from online retailers you can purchase just about anything from and have it on your doorstep in just a couple of days. That's hard to beat and many businesses are running into this same problem.
What Joann Stores in Maine Are Closing?
There are a total of five Joann stores in Maine and three of them are closing while two will remain open. Here's the list:
Auburn Plaza - Center Street in Auburn
Topsham Fair Mall - Topsham
Auburn Plaza - Center Steet in Auburn

These are the two Joann stores that will remain open at this time.
Pine Tree Shopping Center - Portland
Stillwater Avenue - Bangor - Across From the Bangor Mall
I would assume that these stores get a pass on closure as they are in two of Maine's largest cities. More people means more business, thus they get saved from the chopping block.
Let's hope that wasn't left of Joann Fabrics remains for quite some time. Online shopping is great for some things, but physical stores are still the best in my opinion.
