Okay, this might be one of the sweetest things you’ll see today.

Sometimes the best stories aren’t about big events or grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s just a group of people deciding that someone shouldn’t have to spend their birthday alone.

That’s exactly what happened in Oxford.

The folks at Wonderland Treasures Thrift Shop met a man named Walter at their store a few weeks ago. They learned that Walter was about to turn 98 years old and, even more heartbreaking, that he didn’t really know anyone in the area.

So when his birthday rolled around, some of the shop’s vendors decided they weren’t going to let Walter spend it alone.

When a Birthday Becomes a Beautiful Community Moment

They went to celebrate with him.

They brought their company, their time and, from the looks of the photo they shared, a whole lot of genuine kindness. And honestly? This is what community is supposed to look like.

Wonderland Treasures shared the beautiful moment on Facebook, saying, "

We met Walter 3 weeks ago at our shop. He turns 98 tomorrow!. Some of our wonderland vendors went to celebrate with him because He doesn't know anyone in the area. We hope Walter had a great birthday. Happy 98th Walter. We are so happy to have spent the evening with you. We got a great bunch of big hearted vendors and Walter has a beautiful heart too."

I mean… come on.

We talk so much about supporting local businesses, but this is a really lovely reminder that sometimes the people behind those local businesses are doing things that have absolutely nothing to do with making a sale.

They simply saw a 98-year-old man who could use a little company and said, “Not on our watch.”

Wonderland Treasures Thrift Shop is located at 11 Mechanic Falls Road in Oxford, offering clothing, home goods, toys, jewelry, books and more at thrift-store prices.

And apparently, they’re selling something you can’t put on a shelf: a little extra kindness.
