Maine’s Bangor Mall Officially Under Contract for Local Ownership
Do you remember when going to the mall felt like an actual event?
You would arrive and it would take a while to find a parking spot because it was packed, especially on the weekend.
You’d go to Bath & Body Works, grab a pretzel and always see the fast walkers! The kiddos would be darting in and out of the shops and the place was alive!
Today, things are a bit different, because of online shopping, Amazon, and a changing retail world which has left many malls much quieter.
But it seems there is hope for the Bangor Mall, a staple for many generations. It’s officially under contract with a local buyer, according to WABI.
The report says that local leaders and members of the community have bene pushing for months to make this a reality and Senator Joe Baldacci says the involvement of local stakeholders is exactly what they hoped for.
Before this the Mall belonged to a New York based investment group and it’s about to return to local hands.
Hopefully, this will open the door for redevelopment!

Details on what comes next are still under wraps, but the fact that local voices are leading the way is promising.
Maybe one day soon, we’ll have our malls back, not exactly like we remember, but alive again in their own local way. And maybe, just maybe, the pretzels will return.
