Mainers have been waiting, some may say patiently, for the first-ever Costco to open in Maine. I mean we have Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club, but we want another store to buy things in bulk.

After issues with the number and sizing of parking spaces, Costco's plan to open in Scarborough at The Downs, was finally approved. With over a year of waiting and hoping that the plans got approved, it seems that Mainers will have to wait a couple more years to see Costco come to Maine.

According to Insider, Costco plans to open in 24 locations this year (2023). Nine of the new locations will be international, while the other 15 locations will be across the U.S. Additionally, Costco will be relocating 3 of their prior locations, making it that there will be a grand total of 27 newly opened stores in 2023.

Entrepreneur writes that seven of the 24 new Costco locations have already opened late last year and that the other locations will be opening throughout this year. Savingadvice.com states that Costco has yet to release all the information about all their new locations and that Costco usually announces a location 3 months prior to its opening date.

Since, we do not have a date yet for the Scarborough, Maine, location, Savingadvice.com actually states that it honestly may not be part of the 24 locations that are coming in 2023.

Savingadvice.com, believes that Maine may see its first Costco location in either 2024 or 2025.

Not going to lie, I know I am not the only person that is waiting for Costco to open. As we are all waiting for the first Maine location to open, there other locations in New England that we can go to. You can check Costco's website to find the nearest location to you here.
