Rosemont Market Closing Its Portland, Maine Munjoy Hill Location
Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine is losing a great neighborhood market.
Rosemont Market & Bakery at 88 Congress Street on Munjoy Hill in Portland will close at the end of January 2025. This tiny store on the East End has been the neighborhood market and bakery for 15 years. But the fact that it IS tiny is the reason they have to close.
Why is my favorite neighborhood market in Portland, Maine closing?
As Rosemont Market & Bakery grows, their tiny little Munjoy Hill store hasn't. In a press release, Rosemont pointed out that
...the store’s smaller footprint has presented operational challenges that have grown increasingly difficult to overcome.
But the good news is that their other six locations, including two in Portland on Brighton Avenue (the OG Rosemont) and Pine Street in the West End, are going strong. When I first moved to Maine I was so close to the Brighton Ave location. What an intro to Maine!

It's never easy closing a location and co-founder John Naylor said in a statement,
It has been a pleasure to serve the Munjoy Hill Community over the last 17 years. The support of our customers has meant the world to us. While we worked hard to sustain this location, we’ve ultimately had to make the difficult decision to close. Along with the many customers and other local businesses, being a part of the community in Munjoy Hill has been a rewarding experience. We are grateful for our staff who work tirelessly to provide the community with fresh, locally produced, quality food. We plan to remain connected and are hopeful to find a larger space for a new location on the Peninsula.
That is great news for Munjoy Hill! Here's to a bigger and better Rosemont Market & Bakery for the East Enders in the future! Munjoy Hill's store is closing on January 31, 2025.
