That's one way of getting water to a fire.

Right before Easter Sunday, the New Bedford Fire Department was called to a kitchen fire on the third floor of an apartment complex on Beetle Street. There were six apartments in the building. When crews showed up, they found the ultimate no-no. A car parked right in front of the closest source of water. A fire hydrant.

In a Facebook post, the New Bedford FD said,

The crew of Engine 9 overcame an “obstruction” in front of the closest hydrant and were able to secure a water supply.

This is fantastic. The only thing standing between the fire department doing their job was some idiot who decided that what he had going on required hydrant parking. What the fire department didn't say is if they had to smash the windows. That would be a fun addition. But if it was YOUR kitchen that was on fire (they determined an accidental cooking incident) then you know you'd smash through any dumb ass car you needed to!

Everyone got out safely thanks to working fire alarms. Seven tenants including three children are now out of their homes and are being helped by the American Red Cross. I can't believe we have to go through basic road rules but don't park in front of a fire hydrant. Just don't. Circle the block, but don't block a fire hydrant! Can you imagine how bad you would feel if someone was hurt?
