According to the Sun Journal, there are nine of these markers that have now been put throughout the city. They are a quiet and simple reminder of the sacrifice. Behind each marker is a name and a story. I urge you to pause and take a look next time you come upon one of these.
For example, if you are across from the DHHS building, there stands a marker honoring Private John Bryne who was a firefighter that perished after being thrown from a ladder in 1910 when a burning building collapsed, according to The Sun Journal.
