If you live in Maine, this study is less of a shocking discovery and more of a “yeah… we know” situation.

We lose power.

It happens every season for all different reasons.

And we've been recently ranked as winning the power outages game.

A new analysis from OurPCB looked at power outages across the United States and identified the states that deal with them the most.

And while Maine's reputation for losing power during a good storm is already well established among those of us who live here, now there’s data backing up what we’ve been saying every time the lights flicker.

Maine Ranks Among the States With the Most Power Outages

Because in Maine, you don't just watch the weather forecast, you watch it while mentally calculating how much food is in your freezer.

And if the wind starts picking up? Suddenly everyone in the house is walking around asking, “Is the power out yet?”

The study also comes with some advice for protecting all the expensive electronics we’ve accumulated.

The experts say to make sure your power strips actually offer surge protection, unplugging nonessential electronics before severe weather when it’s safe to do so, and considering a UPS battery backup for computers and internet equipment.

You should also back up important files before a major storm and, when the power comes back, reconnect electronics gradually rather than immediately plugging everything back in at once.

Because losing power is annoying.

Losing your TV, computer or Wi-Fi router because the power came back with an attitude? That’s personal.

We may not have wanted the recognition, but apparently our ability to sit in the dark while pretending we’re perfectly prepared for it is now statistically noteworthy.

And honestly? If you’ve lived here for more than five minutes, you already knew.
