It's not a stretch to say people in Maine are working more than ever. In fact, data shows that Americans in general work hundreds of hours more per year than people in most other countries.

With those extensive hours and the likelihood that people are carrying more than one job just to pay their bills or get ahead, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that worker burnout is rising at a staggering pace as well.

A recent study put together by MattressNextDay compiled data from each state to put into seven key factors. Those factors include things like employment rate, average hours worked, percentage of mental health or illness, as well as the percentage of individuals with "side hustles".

That study concluded that Maine is suffering from a prolonged battle with worker fatigue. Vacationland ranks the 9th worst state in the country when it comes to "occupational burnout".

Of the key findings, Maine has the employment rate, with more than 97% of the working population holding down at least one job. While that seems like a positive, Maine also had one of the worst mental health rates, with nearly one out of every five residents battle some sort of crisis or illness.

But what really plunged Maine in the hole as a state suffering from burnout is another key factor that wasn't listed above. That factor is identified as "hustle culture", the idea that people enthusiastically work multiple jobs.

Some states like Oklahoma and Georgia have residents thrilled to work extra time and extra jobs. Maine was one of a handful of states that fully hates it. The study showed that almost all Maine residents despise having to work extra jobs to get by.

The state with the worst worker burnout in the country? Louisiana.
