Lauren Graham Confirms ‘Gilmore Girls’ Reboot + New Casting News
UPDATE (3/22): Lauren Graham's other TV daughter has officially signed on for the Gilmore Girls reboot, too. Mae Whitman, who starred opposite Graham on Parenthood, will make a cameo on the revival, according to a report from Vulture.
Whitman is set to have a "small moment with [Lauren] Graham that will delight Parenthood fans."
UPDATE (2/12): Another day, another bout of Gilmore Girls casting news: Emily Kuroda will reprise her role as Lane’s mother, Mrs. Kim, for the Netflix reboot, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly. Also joining the revival is Vanessa Marano, who played one of the most universally disliked Gilmore Girls characters of all time: Luke’s daughter April Nardini.
David Sutcliffe, who played Rory’s father and Lorelai’s ex-husband Christopher, will also make his way back to Stars Hollow, according to a report from Yahoo!
UPDATE (2/11): Stars Hollow is officially spilling over with casting news: Jared Padalecki, Gilmore Girls' Dean, and Broadway veteran Sutton Foster will also join the show's revival, according to E! News and Entertainment Weekly, respectively. Foster previously starred in Gilmore creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's Bunheads, which aired for one season on ABC Family between 2012 and 2013.
UPDATE (2/10): The casting news for the upcoming Gilmore Girls revival gets better with each passing day: Milo Ventimiglia will also return to Stars Hollow, reprising his role as Rory Gilmore’s endlessly brooding ex-boyfriend, Jess Mariano, according to a report from E! News. Check out a tweet from Ventimiglia below.
Update, 2/4: The Gilmore Girls revival continues to rack up returning cast members: Matt Czuchry is set to return as Logan Huntzberger, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Good Wife's Czuchry played Rory's wealthy classmate-turned-boyfriend for three seasons, until their romance was destroyed at the series' end with a wholly unrealistic marriage proposal ultimatum. To be fair, this didn't happen on creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's watch, since she'd departed the show by its final season — here's hoping Rory and Logan get some proper closure now, if not a reunion.
In further good news, Yanic Truesdale will reprise his role as Michel Gerard, the crabby yet lovable concierge of the Dragonfly Inn, for the upcoming Gilmore Girls revival.
Truesdale made the announcement via Twitter today (February 1), writing, "Happy to be back and reconnect with my old pal Michel. Feeling blessed and excited! #GilmoreGirls.”
The entertainment industry's worst kept secret -- that beloved show Gilmore Girls is mercifully getting a do-over final season in the form of a reboot -- has officially been confirmed as true.
Lauren Graham, who played the quick-witted and clever Lorelai Gilmore, posted a photo to Twitter today (January 29) of herself holding up a jacket emblazoned with the partially obscured words "PROPERTY OF GILMORE GIRLS COSTUME." She wrote, "I CAN NOW CONFIRM: It's time for me, and this jacket I stole in 2007, to return to work. @netflix #GilmoreGirls."
The reboot has tentatively been titled Gilmore Girls: Seasons, according to a report from Vulture, and will likely consist of four 90-minute episodes. Earlier reports indicated that each episode will span one of the four seasons, culminating in the total of one year by the revival's end. While most of the show’s main stars — Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena — have all been confirmed as part of the reboot, there’s been no word yet as to whether Melissa McCarthy will reprise her role as Sookie.
None of Rory’s former flames have confirmed their involvement either, but Milo Ventimiglia (who played the role of nightmare teenage boyfriend, Jess) has openly expressed interest in stepping foot in Stars Hollow again.
"I’m always vocal about Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino: They’re two of my favorite people, two of my favorite writers ever, of all time," Ventimiglia said during a panel at Wizard World Comic Con in Tulsa, Oklahoma. "Just to be able to speak their words again, of course I would do it. So I told them, yeah, of course I’ll do it."
While rumblings of a revival have been circulating online for a few months now, it was never officially confirmed, despite the fact that it was pretty obviously in the works. Just a few weeks ago, set photos from the fictional Gilmore Girls town Stars Hollow made their way online, courtesy of Twitter user @CaddyGlass. The photos showed Miss Patty’s dance studio receiving a fresh coat of paint, along with the revived appearance of some Gilmore Girls-related props.
