Wow! Lightning Strike Creates a Steaming 6 Inch Hole in Pavement

Wow!  You do NOT want to get struck by lightning!  Check out what it did to PAVEMENT in Hatfield, Massachusetts:

Remember Tuesday afternoon when we had those storms roll in?  The thunder was rumbling and from where I was, I could see a few bolts of lightning.  In Hatfield, Massachusetts, according to a report from CBS Local Boston, lightning struck the pavement and created a steaming HOLE!  The hole was about 6 inches deep, according to the report, and was steaming hours after the strike.

Neighbors said that when the bolt hit, it sounded like an explosion.

I'm glad that no one was hurt!

I know people who have been struck by lightning and now I have a greater appreciation for them actually surviving such a thing.  I mean, if lighting can create a six-inch steaming hole in the pavement, imagine what it could do to a human body!

According to thoughtco.com, if you are hit by lightning, you could be left with lasting complications:

Lightning.... can heat the air up to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This combination of power and heat can cause serious damage to the human body.  Being struck by lightning may lead to burns, rupturing of the eardrum, eye damage, cardiac arrest, and respiratory arrest. While about 10 percent of lightning strike victims are killed, many of the 90 percent that survives are left with lasting complications.
