After a short stay in Norway, Maine, Wendy's is returning to the Oxford Hills, just a half-mile from its former location.

Wendy's First Time in The Oxford Hills

When Wendy's first came to town, it had to be in the late 90s to early 2000s, if I remember correctly. If you know the exact open and close dates, let me know.

I remember being jealous that they opened Wendy's over 10 years after I graduated from Oxford Hills High School. It was right across from the high school on Fair Street in Norway, and I would probably have eaten there nearly every day after school. Sure, they serve lunch at the high school, but Wendy's would have been right there!

Wendy's Didn't Last Long

For unknown reasons, the Wendy's on Fair Street didn't last for very long. When it closed, it was replaced by a Tim Horton's, which had a similar fate. You don't bring Tim Horton's from Canada to Dunkinland. Maine runs on Dunkin'.

So, guess what replaced Tim Horton's?

Look closely, and you can see the building still looks like a Wendy's but in Dunkin' colors.

Wendy's Coming to South Paris

According to the Sun Journal, the Paris Planning Board has approved the construction of a new Wendy's in the parking lot of what locals still refer to as the "Cornwall Shopping Center, though the sign for it is long gone.

There's one mistake that the Sun Journal writer unfortunately made. The article claims this will be the first Wendy's in Western Maine. Those of us who grew up in the Oxford Hills and have lived here for a long time know that it's the second Wendy's.

You'll need to be patient, though, as the South Paris Wendy's will not open until at least 2027. Let's hope it lasts this time.
