Fans of fast and affordable food in South Portland most certainly aren't happy about this. The Wendy's location at 50 Market St. in South Portland abruptly closed last week, seemingly losing the fast food battle with nearby McDonald's. A call to the other South Portland Wendy's location by the Maine Mall confirmed the closure.

Just over the Casco Bay Bridge from Portland, it must've been hard for Wendy's to compete with such a vibrant foodie scene, just minutes away in Portland. A nearby McDonald's location must have also contributed to the Wendy's location's demise.

The building was once occupied by both Wendy's and Tim Hortons, until Tim Hortons vacated the premises in 2015. Since then, the Wendy's dining room practically doubled.

In addition to the location by the Maine Mall, other Wendy's locations in the area include the one at 617 Warren Avenue in Portland, and Route One in Scarborough.
