The Top of the East Cocktail Bar in Portland, Maine, Set to Reopen in September
There was once a time in Portland, Maine, where the Top of the East cocktail lounge was considered the fanciest bar in the city. Located on the rooftop of the Westin Harborview Hotel, the Top of the East maintains the name it was given when the hotel was called the Eastland. Back in 2020, the Westin promised a major renovation of the longstanding lounge, complete with two outdoor rooftop decks. Those ambitious plans appear to have been scrapped, but the Top of the East has been closed for quite some time, undergoing a different sort of renovation. They've now scheduled a grand reopening.
Shared on Facebook by Top of the East, the cocktail bar will reopen to the public on Friday, September 2 at 5pm. The Top of the East has been big on hyping the grand reopening, but short on details. They've revealed only a handful of photos of the new space, and have been tight-lipped about what customers can expect in terms of their cocktail and food menu as well.
Based solely on the photos they have revealed, it appears the Top of the East is set to go back in time and recreate itself as a bar the cast of Mad Men would have frequented. The decor harkens back to the days where big bands were prevalent and martinis were the drink of choice. The Top of the East remains one of the oldest bars in Portland, having opened their doors originally in 1963.
