Splash Pad Grand Opening in Saco, Maine – A Dream Realized
What's a Splash Pad?
That's a question I asked because I wasn't familiar with the term "splash pad." I grew up with a water sprinkler on hot summer days, and we liked it!
Turns out that a splash pad is like the largest sprinklers you've ever seen, spraying water on kids and families to cool off on a hot summer day. What I wouldn't have given for a splash pad back in 1976.

The 1,700-square-foot splash pad features a variety of playful and interactive water elements, including colorful spray rings, dumping buckets, a rain curtain, and spraying nozzles. But more than just fun, the splash pad was thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind, featuring a flush ground surface for easy wheelchair access and a child-friendly button that activates water cycles, ensuring that everyone can join in the excitement.
This moment marks the successful culmination of a two-year project led by the Rotary Club of Biddeford Saco, whose vision and dedication have brought this exciting space to life.
