ROAD TRIP WORTHY: Discover The Last Wire Bridge Standing In Maine
This bridge across the Carrabassett River may be the last wire-supported bridge of its kind in the world in New Portland, Maine, according to Atlas Obscura. New Portland is a town in Somerset County, west of Bangor and north of Augusta. The bridge was built in 1866 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, according to New Portland's official website.
