There's a new candy store in Portland, Maine, that's different from any place you've been to.

If you've never had Scandinavian-inspired candy, that bucket list item is about to be scratched off. If you have a sweet tooth, you'll want to check out Portland’s newest Scandinavian-inspired candy shop. It's called Sodt, which means sweet in Danish.

Sisters share their love of Danish candy at their new Portland, Maine, shop

Fox23 shared that two sisters, Nikoline and Signe Ostergaard, would bring back candy from trips to Denmark to share with friends, and decided to share with more friends. They have Danish heritage and pay homage to it with their logo. There is a little mermaid that comes from the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen. And yes, that is the inspiration for Danish author Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale 'The Little Mermaid'.

What exactly is BUBS ? Think original sour patch kid. According to Swedish Candy,

In 1992, the Lindström family from Huskvarna mortgaged their home to start BUBS, a candy company named after their initials: Bernt, Ulrik, Birgitta, and Stefan. They grew BUBS into a beloved Swedish brand, known for playful combinations of taste, texture, and form, often with double flavors and surprising shapes. In 2023, the brand became popular among TikTok users and began the Swedish candy frenzy in the US.

Nikoline and Signe did tell Fox23 that TikTok helped with the popularity of BUBS. That and their mix-and-match model for getting your candy fix filled their store on a rainy opening day, much to their surprise and delight! It may just be the thing you need to turn that frown upside down!
