New Ride Arrives at Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach, Maine
It's always exciting when a new ride arrives at Palace Playland, the amusement park that has been at the beach since 1902. In this case, two new rides have arrived, ready to be set up for the season opening.
Palace Playland's History
In 1902, Palace Playland was built in the same place it stands today, making it Maine's oldest operating amusement park and New England's largest beachfront amusement park.
Over its 123 years, many things have changed at Palace Playland. Rides come and go as they get bigger and more thrilling, keeping Palace Playland a popular place to bring the family for a day at the beach and on the rides.
Wind Surfer Amusement Ride
The first of two new rides is called Wind Surfer. It's seen above being delivered and is described on the Palace Playland website:
Soar through the air on a three-person hang glider. Reach for the clouds as you fly around and get lifted 30 feet in the air. The Wind Surfer is perfect for thrill-seeking kids and adults.
The best way to describe this ride is like the spinning swings amusement ride, but on steroids. Spinning 30 feet in the air sounds fun to me if I were still 16, but a lot of people are going to love it.

Nitro Speed
What is Nitro Speed? That's a good question. No information has been given by Palace Playland as of this writing. Just a title for the ride on their website that says "More details coming soon."
Those details are coming VERY soon, as Palace Playland will open for the season on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24 through May 26, and all shall be revealed to park goers. For more info and to buy tickets, go to Palace Playland's website.
