The area of Five Corners on the town line between Poland and Mechanic Falls has seen a lot of development in recent years, the latest being the opening of a Hannaford Supermarket. Now Mechanic Falls would like to see more businesses choose to set up shop near the busy intersection.

Five Corners is the intersection of routes 26 and 11. It got its name because until a recent reconfiguration of the intersection, Winterbrook Road made the fifth corner before being rerouted to enter route 26 on the Poland side of the intersection.

With all the traffic coming though Five Corners on the way to Sunday River and Oxford Casino, the area has been ripe for development. A larger Big Apple Food Store was built on the Poland side with a connected McDonald's and in July, a new Hannaford Supermarket opened up in what was once an empty field on the Mechanic Falls side.

According the Sun Journal, Mechanic Falls is hoping to help with development of three new buildings in the area near Hannaford. Two 5000 sq ft buildings on the Route 26 side and a 9000 sq ft building on the Route 11 side.

Several suggestions have been made on what should go in these locations from a Golden Corral, Olive Garden or Sonic to a Five Below, Target and even a laundromat.

What would you like to see go in these three new buildings? Let us know in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
