A noodle company in Maine is getting a lot of attention, in the best way possible.

This female-founded business, Mar Mar Noodle Company in Portland, Maine makes noodles from kelp harvested off the coast was just honored, according to WMTW.

They scored a $30,000 EmpowHer grant from the Boundless Futures Foundation. This is one of only four grants that are awarded during their first round of giving this year.  

And the grant doesn’t just come with a bunch of cash, it also comes with mentorship. Coaching, and access to an advisory of seasoned female entrepreneurs.  

Mar Mar Noodle Company was founded by Liz Kennedy and the way they produce their noodles is like health magic. Take a peak at a plate Japchae and let your mouth water! 

Get this, she uses sugar kelp and alaria sustainably harvested and certified organic.

So you know when you enjoy their delicious noodles, your body will benefit. The noodles are crafted with a seaweed-derived ingredient called sodium alginate, giving them a unique texture and eco-friendly edge.

Soon Hagerty, co-founder of the foundation says,  

“I am inspired by the women who saw a problem and are addressing it with their creative companies, all while creating social good,”  

The foundation that awarded the grant started in 2023 and have focused on their mission of supporting female led businesses and nonprofits.

Since they began, they have award over $1.3 million in EmpowHer grants throughout the United States.  

For Portland and beyond this is a beautiful win and a reminder that sometimes the best innovation comes from the ocean and driven by women!
