Maine’s Largest Amusement Park, Funtown/Splashtown USA Will Not Open This Summer
For the first time in 60 years, Funtown/Splashtown USA will not open its doors, and it is all because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Newscenter Maine. The park's owner, Kevin Cormier told the news station that the decision was based on two major factors -- Maine's emergency order which includes a ban on large groups through June, and federal limits on hiring temporary workers through the the J-1 Visa program. This is usually the time of year when Funtown/Splashtown starts hiring dozens of people, many of them teenagers who depend on summer jobs.
Cormier also said in his interview, which you can watch below, that the largest amusement park in Maine "may be forced to close for good" if the COVID-19 pandemic continues into next year.
Funtown/Splashtown USA in Saco is a family-owned and operated amusement and water park that has been around since the 1960s.
