Sanford Getting Maine’s First Ever Ollie’s Bargain Outlet

Get ready Sanford, Maine, for the first-ever Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at the Center for Shopping. It's set to open on May 1.

Maine is very familiar with discount bargain outlets. We've got a lot of them with Marden's being the most famous. But Ollie's is (according to their website) America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory. They have 558 'semi-lovely' stores. Nothing like truth in advertising.

Maine's first Ollie's in Sanford is hiring!

According to Seacoast Online, the District Manager Jerry Ballard says they need to fill more than 50 jobs and have a couple of job fairs on Friday, March 14th, and Saturday, March 15. They will be between Subway and Planet Fitness at the Shopping Center on Main Street in Sanford.

What makes Ollie's different from other Maine bargain outlet stores?

Much of the merchandise comes directly from brands you've heard of. If a manufacturer makes too much of something, or changes their packaging, Ollie’s will buy the overstocked or old packaged items. You will find famous brand-name products at Ollie’s, but a lot of them could be last year’s colors, patterns, or packaging that traditional retailers won’t sell. But Ollie's will sell them and sell them at a huge discount.

It will be nice to see Ollie's go into a space that has been empty at the shopping center for almost 10 years. Marshalls closed at the center back in 2016 and nothing has moved in. If you had a Big Lots in town, Ollie's bought a bunch of them in New Hampshire after they filed for bankruptcy in 2024. The District Manager, Jerry Ballard, told Seacoast Online,
