Random OUI Checkpoints Are Coming to Lewiston, Maine
As we all bid summer a sweet farewell in Maine, Lewiston Police is focusing on keeping residents safe and accountable. As September fully rolls in, Lewiston Police will be conducting random OUI checkpoints.
They are also called OUI roadblocks. Lewiston PD posted it on their Facebook page letting all of us know, it’s no secret that they are performing these checks but the locations and times will not be revealed for obvious reasons.
Why do they do this? Easy, they are created to catch impaired drivers and to spread awareness on the fact that drinking and driving is extremely dangerous and deadly.
What to Expect at a Lewiston OUI Checkpoint
Apparently in September, drinking and driving is more likely to happen especially during the night and early morning hours.
The checkpoints are predetermined spots around Lewiston and the officers say their goal is not to cause any stress or hassle but to stop unsafe driving in our town.
So what happens at an OUI checkpoint? As you are driving down the road, you will notice signs or lights asking you to stop.

Drivers are asked to stop, asked a few routine questions, and during that time will be observed for any signs of being impaired.
And if the police officers determine something is off the driver will then most likely face further evaluation. For everyone else, they want to make it as quick and painless as possible, in and out.
At the end of the day, this is only to help our community, to make sure that we’re all safe and enjoy our beautiful season. Point is, do not drink and drive.
