Maine’s Jodie’s Café & Bakery Reminds Us All Why Supporting Local is Vital
Guys, you didn’t hear this over the weekend, this one is going to hit a little different. Sitting pretty right next to Red's Eats, in Wiscasset is Jodie’s Cafe and Bakery and they are officially closing the doors, and for anyone who loves Maine’s small businesses, it feels personal, according to their Facebook.
Owner Jodie Roquemore didn’t just open a restaurant, she brought a piece of herself to Maine.
Coming from central Georgia, Jodie created a place inspired by her Southern roots, serving up comfort food, baked goods, and dishes like grits and gumbo that told a story with every plate. In a heartfelt message announcing the closure, Jodie said walking away wasn’t just closing a business.
Why Jodie's Cafe & Bakery Closed: Owner's Heartfelt Message to Customers
It felt like giving up a part of herself. And honestly? That’s why this one stings. Because places like Jodie’s aren’t just places to grab lunch.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Jodie shared that when the cafe first closed in May, she truly believed it would only be temporary.
She held onto hope for months before accepting that reopening simply wasn’t going to happen. She described the loss as grieving, saying closing the restaurant felt like losing a part of herself after pouring everything she had into the dream.
She thanked every customer who celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, Sunday brunches, or simply stopped in for coffee, saying they became part of the cafe’s story and family.
But she also shared an important reminder,
"So if you’ve been meaning to stop in for the last three years…well…this is your reminder not to wait so long to support the next local business you love. We all assume our favorite little places will always be there—until one day they aren’t."
We all have that restaurant, coffee shop, bakery, or little local spot we say, “We’ve gotta try that place someday." Right? But sometimes, "someday" comes too late.
Go try the place you’ve been talking about. Support the dream. Because in Maine, our favorite little places aren’t guaranteed to always be there… until one day, they’re not.
