New Hotel Being Built in Scarborough, Maine, Near the Maine Mall
For well over a year, there was a patch of land on Payne Road in Scarborough near the Maine Mall that had been flattened and appeared ready for construction. Instead, it just sat there barren, outlasting a restaurant opening and closing next door.
But for those that have driven that busy stretch of Payne Road in the past couple months, you've noticed that flattened piece of land is starting to come to life. Fencing is up and construction has commenced on a brand new hotel with an a bit of interesting twist to it.
According to Hotel Online, the concept is being called HomeAwhile. Rather than a traditional hotel setting many of us know, the new 109-room hotel will be all suites designed and fitted for individuals visiting the area on extended stays.
Suites will be fitted with large bedrooms as well as living areas. Suites will also feature full kitchens, allowing for guests to take advantage of nearby grocery stores to save on meal expense. Additionally, suites will have dedicated work spaces with high-speed internet access available.
HomeAwhile believes the demand for a hotel that offers those amenities specifically is growing as more travelers work remotely or individuals continue to work while they vacation.
While it appears work is moving quickly on HomeAwhile in Scarborough, the project is expected to take significantly longer to complete. According to Hotel Online, construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2025 with a grand opening likely to occur in the spring of 2026.
