Maine Ranked Among the Funniest States in America, Who Knew?

Maine has always had a certain kind of humor. It's dry, a little sarcastic, and usually delivered with a straight face. Now, it turns out the rest of the country is finally catching on. 

This new study from Hard Rock Bet ranked the states with the best sense of humor in America, and Maine landed in the top five. 

According to the rankings, Maine came in 5th overall with a comedy index score of 49.7, beating out states like Massachusetts, Colorado, Texas, and Vermont. 

The rankings looked at some factors, including how many comedy shows, comedy venues, notable comedians, and even how much people search online for things like "funny jokes" and "dad jokes." 

Apparently, Mainers love to laugh.

The study found Maine offers nearly 10 comedy shows per 100,000 residents, has more than 12 notable comedians per million people, and racks up more than 1,300 comedy-related Google searches per 100,000 residents. 

Connecticut claimed the top spot, followed by New York, Rhode Island, and Nevada. 

Honestly, this ranking feels pretty fitting. Maine humor isn't usually loud or over-the-top. It's the perfectly timed one-liner, the deadpan comment, or the classic "ayuh" that somehow gets a whole room laughing.

Whether it's a local comedian at a small venue, a dad joke around the campfire, or that uniquely Maine ability to make fun of ourselves, it's nice to see Maine is getting recognized for something besides lobster and lighthouses. 

So if someone tells you Mainers don't have a sense of humor, you can officially tell them they're wrong. Because, we're one of the funniest states in the country.
