For the better part of two years, there has been significant work taking place along Payne Road in Scarborough, Maine, near Sebago Brewing Company and the Maine Mall.

A space was flattened and then quickly transformed into a brand new hotel with a unique twist.

The hotel itself is called HomeAwhile and isn't considered a standard hotel. It's meant for extended stays.

Those extended stays could be work-related, longer vacations or a lengthy visit to see family and friends.

But HomeAwhile has been specifically designed to feel like you've signed a new lease and live in your own apartment.

The booking tool on the hotel's website allows for online reservations starting on April 1. That likely means HomeAwhile will officially have a soft opening sometime in late-March.

HomeAwhile offers several different room types, including suites with King and Queen beds, a suite that features full laundry in the unit and even a two-bedroom suite with complete privacy.

HomeAwhile plans to keep room prices affordable with the cheapest rate sitting in the low 100's per night.

The Scarborough, Maine, HomeAwhile Will Be The First of a Hopeful Nationwide Chain

According to the Portland Press Herald, HomeAwhile in Scarborough could end up being the start of a larger chain.

The Maine-based hospitality group behind the hotel is hopeful that the apartment-style extended stay model grabs interest and that the standalone hotel can move to becoming a chain.

Maine Course, the hospitality group behind HomeAwhile, believes their hotel has the home-like feel of an Airbnb while delivering the same amenities hotels have like housekeeping services, ample parking, laundry and a fitness center.
