When it comes to Maine music history, few venues are as iconic as Portland's Cross Insurance Arena. For decades, it has been one of the state's premier destinations for concerts, sporting events, and major entertainment.

Since opening its doors in 1977, the arena has welcomed countless legendary musicians, family-oriented shows, graduations, and special events. It's also been home to several minor league hockey teams over the years, including the current tenant, the ECHL's Maine Mariners.

What Famous Bands Have Played the Cross Insurance Arena?

And then, of course, there's the music history that has come through the building, and it's exemplary. Bands and artists like Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kenny Rogers, KISS, Heart, the Grateful Dead, Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, and Bob Seger have all played Maine's largest arena, and that's just scratching the surface.

The music is also incredibly diverse. There is truly something for everyone at the Cross Insurance Arena every year. Genres like rock, folk, country, reggae, and jazz can all be found at this legendary venue. There's no musical discrimination here.

Heck, I've seen some killer shows there over the years, including B.B. King, Harry Connick Jr., Trey Anastasio, 3 Doors Down, and Goose. I'm sure I'm forgetting others, but that's what happens when you get older and have the memory of a goldfish.

What Concerts are Scheduled for the Cross Insurance Arena This Summer and Fall?

While the schedule may not be as packed as it once was due to increased competition from venues across Southern Maine and Northern New England, the arena still attracts some outstanding shows, and the summer and fall of 2026 are no exception.

Some absolutely legendary acts are taking the stage this year, including Barry Manilow, who already played a sold-out show, and Ringo Starr, who will perform in Portland for the first time ever this October.
