Has Anyone Noticed This at Portland, Maine’s Hadlock Field?
Look down the next time you cross Park Avenue to get to Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
As we get excited for the 2024 season of the Portland Sea Dogs and thousands of us gather at Hadlock Field, you may have missed this very cool detail. Crossing Park Avenue to get to Hadlock Field is a whole lot easier if you use the crosswalk.
When there is a game, police usually help usher fans across the busy street because games are always (and inevitably) around the time people are trying to get home, so it can be very busy. Because it can be hectic and you are probably clutching your small child's hand to not lose them, it's easy to not notice this super cool detail about that crosswalk.
The crosswalk is kinda funny-looking. That's because the crosswalk is painted with pairs of bats! Baseball bats! How clever! Now you know why you've probably missed this. It was only in the off-season heading to the nearby credit union that I thought, "Wait, are those bats?" Yup.
How have I gone to a thousand baseball games and never noticed this sweet detail of Hadlock Field? It's just another reason to love the Sea Dogs.
When does the Portland Sea Dogs 2024 season start?
Your Portland, Maine, Sea Dogs are home for their first game on Friday, April 5, against the Hartford Yard Goats. We all know a Sea Dog is way better than a Yard Goat! While you're walking to root on Portland, don't forget to look down!
