As the days get shorter and the calendar reminds us that fall is right around the corner there's one thing we can all look forward to: it's fair season in Maine.

The midway with those almost impossible-to-win games, the livestock, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, the rides, the sights, sounds and of course smells, and let's not forget about the fair food.

Fried dough, cotton candy, kettle corn, pizza, sausage peppers and onion subs and more! Summer may be winding down but the fair season is just beginning.

There are two fairs next week kicking off the official start to the season with the Windsor Fair starting on Sunday the 25th through September 2nd, followed by the Blue Hill Fair which begins on the 29th and runs through the 2nd.

The Harmony Free Fair is also that week beginning on the 30th and running through the 2nd as well as the Springfield Fair running August 31st through September 1st.

Then it's off to the Clinton Lions Agricultural Fair which takes place September 5th through the 8th, about the same time as the Litchfield Fair, that one begins on the 6th and ends on the 8th.

Then it's off to Oxford for the annual Oxford County Fair taking place September 11th through the 14th, almost the same dates as the New Portland Lions Fair. That one runs September 13th through the 15th.

Beginning on the 15th is the Farmington Fair which runs through the 21st.

Up next is the 2 day Common Ground Country Fair happening September 20th through the 22nd.

The popular Cumberland Fair begins on September 22nd and runs through the 28th this year.

And closing out the fair tour is the famous Fryeburg Fair which begins on September 29th and continues through October 6th.

After that it's time to start thinking about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and wondering how much longer until spring!
