Creative Cupcakes at 94.9 Cupcake Challenge [Photos]

Who knew there were so many cupcake lovers in northern New England! And so incredibly creative! We have more 94.9 HOM Cupcake Challengers to show off.

Deadline for entries is this Friday, March 7th.  Enter at 949WHOM.com. We'll be selecting 10 finalists next week.  The 10 finalists will bring their cupcakes to the 94.9 HOM Cupcake Challenge at Dessert First on Sunday, March 23 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.

Katie Perry of Little B's Cupcakes of Rochester, NH is getting in the St. Patrick's Day holiday spirit with her Kiss Me I'm Irish Cupcake - a slight hint of crème de menthe in the cupcake, with a cream cheese frosting.  Love cream cheese frosting!

Barbara Smith of Cakes by Babbs has the keys to my heart with her Almond Joy cupcake - Dark Chocolate Cupcake with a Coconut Buttercream dipped in Chocolate and finished with toasted coconut and a candied almond!

Morgan Doucet and Lexie Sanborn have developed the Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino.  This will be a crowd favorite! This cupcake was inspired by their favorite drink at Starbucks, the "Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino." The cupcake itself is a moist, devil's food cake mixed with chocolate chips to give it a fluffy yet chunky (in a good way) consistency. The cupcake is cored and filled with a light, fudge drizzle and chocolate mousse. Finally, it is topped with a Swiss meringue butter-cream frosting and fudge drizzle. For added decor, a Starbucks straw is added to portray the infamous Starbucks frappuccino.
