Portland's City Council has voted to keep a prohibition against amplified music on the back deck at The Thirsty Pig in the Old Port due to complaints of loud and excessive noise from nearby condo owners according to the Press Herald.

The article states that the owners of the popular Old Port bar had offered to work with the local residents by putting in sound meters at the bar and the condo as well as give the tenants the bar owners phone numbers. Dave Nowers who manages the Thirsty Pig said they want to make this work and is clearly willing to do what it takes to survive in the Old Port.

But owners of the condos at 150 Middle Street as well as 99 Silver Street say they should be treated like a residential neighborhood regardless of being smack dab in the middle of the Old Port. Adding that there are about 60 condos in those two buildings and the outdoor music was unbearable back in 2017.
