I have fond memories of going to drive-in theaters in Maine as a kid. The first movie I ever saw on a big screen was Star Wars in 1977 at the Bridgton Twin Drive-in. The younger generations know this movie as Star Wars: A New Hope. In 1983, I saw Arthur and Superman III at Pride's Corner Drive-In in Westbrook.

Luckily both those drive-in theaters mentioned above are still in operation, but Maine's drive-in theaters are not as plentiful as they used to be.

The Bridgton Twin Drive-In is a gem in Maine as most drive-in theaters do not have two screens. Two screens means more cars can come in to park in front of screen one or two depending on the films they want to see. One screen might show more adult-themed films while the other shows films for younger ages.

What a drive-in without a snack bar? Make sure you bring cash, because the Bridgton Drive-In only takes cash, both at the ticket booth when you enter and at the snack bar. If you try waving your phone to pay for it, you're not going to get too far.

Tentative Opening Date

On April 10th, Bridgton Twin Drive-In posted a photo of their marquee that read "Tentative opening, Fri April 25."

With the way spring has been so far, you need to cover all the bases with a tentative date, in case we get hit with some mid-spring snow. Luckily, the drive-in has the water on and more preparations are underway to hopefully open on April 25.

The post says that only one screen will be open on the 25th and the movie showing will likely be A Minecraft Movie.
