Breaking: Professional Hockey is Coming Back to Portland
Portland is known as a great hockey town, and we've been without a team since the AHL Portland Pirates left us in 2016 for Springfield, Massachusetts.
That changes today, as the Cross Insurance Area just announced a new hockey team is taking up residence here in Portland!
In a press release this morning, the Cross Arena announced that Comcast Spectacor, operators of the Arena, have purchased the Alaska Aces ECHL hockey franchise, and will move them to Portland for the 2018-2019 season.
The new team doesn't have a name yet, so we've gotta come up with one!
According to information from the arena this morning, the new team will play 36 regular-season games, and playoff games as well if the team qualifies.
We'll have more information about the new team and the ECHL as we learn more!
