One of the biggest business losses to Mainers during the pandemic was the Cinemagic movie theater chain. All eight of its theaters in New England closed permanently in February, including Cinemagic theaters in Saco, Westbrook and South Portland. The following July an announcement was made that most of those theaters had been bought and just three months later, they are reopened with a new name.

Apple Cinemas based out of Walpole, Massachusetts has been expanding recently. Their first theater opened in 2013 with 10 screens and has since grown to 12 locations. One in Massachusetts, one in Rhode Island, six in Connecticut, and four more in Maine and New Hampshire with the purchase of some Cinemagic locations.

The former Cinemagic theaters in Hookset and Merrimack New Hampshire and Saco and Westbrook, Maine are now open under the Apple Cinemas banner. The Cinemagic Grand at Clark's Pond in South Portland was not purchased by Apple Cinemas and now is the new location for The Axe Pit.

A lot of Mainers will be happy to know that the Saco location still has its IMAX theater, which comes as a relief since it is the only IMAX theater in Maine.

The new James Bond movie No Time To Die, Addams Family 2 and Venom: Let There Be Carnage are playing at all Apple Theater locations in Maine and New Hampshire, while the New Hampshire locations add Konda Polam, The Many Saints of Newark, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Free Guy.
