Herb considers himself luckiest guy in the world to be able to captain one of the greatest rock stations in the USA! That's why the call him "The Captain," right? He's been on the Blimp for over 30 years, and no two days have ever been the same. He calls Blimp listeners “friends I’ve never met,” and it’s true as they share a common bond of living in Maine and a passion for Rock and Roll. He also enjoys working with so many local charities and businesses as well. He's wicked proud to represent Townsquare Media as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of Broadcasters and as a board member of NESCom at Husson University.

Where Are The Public Restrooms In Downtown Portland?
It's one of the worst feelings in the world. You're out and about in public, and..." duty calls" Now you need to find a restroom, and FAST. It's sometimes even more urgent if you have little ones with you. With more people finally getting out and coming downtown to eat, drink, shop, and be merry in beautiful downtown Portland, we thought it might be helpful if you knew where to find the quickest restroom. Some of the city restrooms are currently closed because of COVID, but there are still plenty all around the peninsula.
How Bad Is Maine’s Pandemic Drinking Problem?
It's no surprise to anyone that Mainers have drunk more during the pandemic. For many of us, it's the reason we are carrying around an extra 10 pounds these days. But the effects of Mainers alcohol use, and misuse, especially during the past year, have led to some unfortunate consequences. We know that nationally 32% of people were binge-drinking in 2020 and that 60% of us increased our daily consumption of alcohol. In 2020, 584 Mainers had an alcohol-related death. That's a 28% increase from 2019 and a 75% increase from 2015. The State of Maine recently released a brief on alcohol use in Maine. It's certainly worth a read. Here are some key findings:

Of course, now that we've put that in your brain, you're going to see HUNDREDS of silver Kia's when you drive around this week.

Police in Maine were in hot pursuit of the rider of this sweet ride over the weekend. It all started with a traffic stop by State Trooper Tyler Nadeau on Route 202 in Greene. The trooper had tried to stop some bikers who were driving aggressively. During the stop, Trooper Nadeau noticed that one of the bikes did not have a registration plate. That's when the rider, Devin Jeselskis of Lewiston. allegedly took off at high speed.
It’s Happening Maine! Fenway Park Announces 2021 Concert Series
We had a bunch of concert announcements this week in New England. You remember concerts...when we all get together and go crazy with our favorite musicians? Making incredible memories with friends and sometimes, complete strangers! Rescheduled shows and some new shows have been announced at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, The Bank of NH Pavilion in Gilford, Rock Row in Westbrook, and Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor. And today the Boston Red Sox announces their Summer Concert Series. All of these Fenway dates are make-up dates from 2020. I hope you held on to your tickets! All the shows are tentative based on how the pandemic goes. But the fact that we may actually see LIVE MUSIC this summer warms my heart.
Kids From Maine Helped Make The #1 Song In the USA
Maine can now boast of being part of a #1 record in the USA!
Maine music students are part of the new song by the rock band The Pretty Reckless. This past winter, thanks to The Halo studio, and Jonathan Wyman, Maine Academy of Modern Music students were invited to sing on "And So It Went", the latest single by The Pretty Reckless. It gets even cooler because also featured on the track with the MAMM students is Tom Morello, the guitarist from Rage Against The Machine.

Portland Artists Brighten Downtown Street Closures
If you've been in downtown Portland recently, you know that the City has shut down some streets to better accommodate downtown restaurants and shopping during the pandemic. It's all very cool, but one byproduct of this move has been the somewhat ugly concrete barriers blocking the streets. Creative Portland, the city's official non-profit arts agency, to the rescue! Creative Portland has hired five Maine artists to create beautifully designed covers for these barricades. The art not only brightens the barricades but also touts Portland's COVID-19 health messages.

Country, Metal, Hip-Hop, The Downs saw it all!
This Portland Bridge Was Up, So These Ladies Decided to Have a Rollerblading Adventure on It
There's nothing worse than getting stuck on the Casco Bay Bridge in Portland. Why does it always go up when I'm in a wicked big rush to get somewhere? I was stuck on the bridge this week and was catching up on some emails while I waited for the big ship to pass under when I heard the squeals of laughter. I looked up and saw two rollerbladers skating around on the bridge. Of course, because the bridge was up, there was no traffic hazard for the skaters to worry about, so they had the whole bridge to themselves. There is a walking/bike/rollerblading path o the bridge, but these two decided to go next-level and take over the whole road. It was pretty funny, and they seemed to be having a great time. Nice moves, ladies
