...and it's for a good cause!

What have I gotten myself into??

When I heard about the annual "Rappel For Rippleffect" event, I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of it. The opportunity to rappel down one of Portland's tallest buildings...the one that I work in every day? I said "count me in!" before I really thought about what I was getting myself into.

Well the reality is slowly starting to sink in. I mean, I don't necessarily have a big fear of heights...but still, this is going to be quite terrifying. At 13 stories and over 138 feet high, One City Center is Maine's 3rd tallest building...and in Portland second only to Franklin Towers.

But it's all for a good cause. People rappelling are required to raise pledges of $1,000 or more.

Proceeds of Rappel For Rippleffect event will go toward:

  • Increasing Rippleffect's capacity to provide more scholarship opportunities for Maine youth
  • Growing our community-based programs for schools and youth non-profits
  • Providing year-round programs that build confidence, develop critical leadership skills, strengthen relationships, and grow participant's appreciation for the outdoors through the exploration of Cow Island, the waters of Casco Bay, and the wilderness of New England.
