Why Are Celebrities Wearing White Roses At The Grammy Awards?
It started at the Golden Globes when actors chose to wear black with "Time's Up" pins as accessories. Now the movement continues at the 60th Grammy Awards where stars have chosen to wear white roses in support of the #MeToo movement.
Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Ne-Yo, Lana del Rey and more were spotted wearing white roses on the Grammy red carpet on Sunday (January 28).
Founded by Voices in Entertainment, the white rose will symbolize solidarity and help raise awareness to fight sexual misconduct and gender inequality in the music industry.
According to Rita Ora, one of artists participating in the movement, she said "it is important for us to come together and show others they are not alone."
"Music has always brought people together and has been an outlet for individuals to express all kinds of emotions," she said in a statement to MTV News. "It is important that our art form continues to create safe spaces for people to explore these issues. My hope is that the #whiterose movement is just the beginning.”
Voices in Entertainment comprises of 15 members and was founded by Meg Harkins, the SVP of Marketing at Roc Nation, and Karen Rait of Rhythmic Promotions at Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records.
