Sadly, Lady Gaga has never performed here in Maine, but she was here several years ago at Deering Oaks Park in Portland. Do you remember?

It was September of 2010 and Gaga was making stops at rallies across the country to repeal the so-called 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy for the U.S. military. The policy prohibited any homosexual or bisexual person from disclosing his or her sexual orientation or from speaking about any homosexual relationships while serving in the armed forces.

The Q Morning Show went down to Deering Oaks because we were told that we had been asked to introduce Lady Gaga, but security seemed to know nothing about that. We were right within reach of Lady Gaga as she stepped off her bus dressed in a blazer and tie and wearing sunglasses. Lori kept yelling "Gaga! GAGA! GAGA!" but to no one's surprise, she was completely ignored.

Lori wasn't going to let this go. It was her big chance to see Lady Gaga in person, so she weaseled her way up to her tour bus door as closely as she could and waited for Gaga to come out of the bus, yelling at her like a reporter trying to get attention. "GAGA!!! GAGA!!!! GAGA over here!!!!"

Gaga put up a peace sign directed at no one in particular and was whisked away to the stage in Deering Oaks.

The Don't Ask Don't Tell policy was repealed a year after Lady Gaga appeared in Portland. Here's her entire speech from that day that helped make the change.
