Here's a Jeff fun fact. I went to the University of Maine for just one year before I realized I didn't want to study for a bachelor's degree in communications. I just wanted to be a radio DJ. Mission accomplished. I've now been working in radio for 34 years and still love it. Time flies.

I just recently learned that the UMaine, which I was at for all of one year, now has food delivery. And not by a human? What?

Robots Delivering Food

UMaine now has 15 four-wheeled robots that deliver food to student's dorms. I kind of wish this was a thing in 1989. I ordered way too much Domino's Pizza while I was there. This could have been amazing.

How The Robots Work

These robots are made by a company called Kiwibots and they are semi-autonomous. They find their way around the campus by using GPS and a camera to find their destination and deliver food that someone on campus ordered through an app on their phone, be it a student, faculty member, or staff member.

Once the robot arrives at its destination, it opens its lid allowing the person who ordered to reach in and grab their food. Pretty cool huh? It sure beats having to tip the delivery guy.

How Much Food Can the Robots Hold?

These little robots seem bigger on the inside than they look. They can fit two meals in their compartment which could include a sandwich and chips or up to 3 pizzas. Plenty of space for a couple of roommates to get their food delivered.

Now when can we get some of these robots to start delivering me a pizza at home?
