Okay, I think we've found it.

And before you come for me, yes, I know Maine has a lot of breakfast sandwiches to offer us.

But hear me out,  Ugly Duckling in Portland might have the best egg sandwich in Maine.

A food creator named, Joseph Calcavecchia who is behind the Instagram account The Roaming Foodie recently posted about Ugly Duckling, calling it one of their favorite egg sandwiches in Portland.

And naturally I scanned through my memory and quickly was reminded of the best egg sandwich I've ever tried and it too was at this restaurant. Now, when I was there the food was gone before I could take a photo, but it was one of those "morning after" situations and boy, it was the perfect medicine.

And friends… I get it.

Ugly Duckling is tucked into Portland’s West End at 246 Danforth Street, and their breakfast sandwiches are built on English muffins they make themselves.

They mix, griddle and bake them right there, which honestly feels like showing off, but in the best possible way.

A Maine Foodie Says This Portland Spot Has One of the Best Egg Sandwiches Around

I tried the egg sandwich myself, and I am not exaggerating when I say I would choose this over a McDonald’s Egg McMuffin.

There. I said it.

There’s something about that crispy-on-the-outside, soft-in-the-middle English muffin with the egg, cheese and all the good breakfast-y stuff that just works.

And Ugly Duckling has several versions to choose from, including the No. 2 with fried eggs, American cheese and local pork sausage, plus the ridiculously fun “Como se dice Buon Giorno” with prosciutto, crispy hash brown, fried egg, aged provolone and garlic mayo.

So, is it officially the best egg sandwich in Maine? I’m willing to start the argument.

Because I already know I’m going back.
