Top of the East Cocktail Bar in Portland, Maine, Finally Welcomes Guests Back
One of the oldest bars in our beloved city of Portland has finally opened their doors back up for guests to enjoy panoramic views of Casco Bay and their favorite brick city.
What was once the Eastland hotel is now the Westin Portland Harborview, home to the Top of the East bar that originally opened their doors in 1963 but has recently taken a two-year hiatus.
The top-floor bar is back and both locals and visitors are ready to take in the views, sip the new cocktails, and taste the new menu.
Top of the East Cocktail Bar Reopens in Portland, Maine
The cocktail bar sits on the 15th floor of the hotel, boasting panoramic views of the harbor and the city. The renovations were worth the wait with an aesthetic meant to, “evoke a feeling of days gone by”, as the spot shared on Facebook.
As the bar shares, the design is inspired by the age of entertainment and the history of the Westin.
The hotel does come with a rich history of entertaining…
Way back in the day, the ex-Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne was escorted out of the city and kicked out of Eastland/Westin hotel for throwing pool furniture off the roof. The pool has since been shut down.
Thanks, Ozzy.
While there may not be a rooftop pool anymore, we still have the iconic Top of the East cocktail bar and now a newly renovated version.
Top of the East Cocktail Bar Renovates and Reopens
Top of the East reopened recently on Friday, September 2, with an updated and newly revamped cocktail and food menu. They have classics like an Old Fashioned and unique ones of their own. I personally admire their carefully-curated mocktail list, which is important for all bars to do.
For bites to eat, you’ll find local flavorful fare like harissa shrimp and sweet potato crab cakes and of course a charcuterie board.
Whether you were a regular before or you’ve never stepped foot on the 15th floor of the Westin, you’ll have to go check out the best views in and of the city with a drink in hand.
