The Rack in Portsmouth, NH is doing their part to help with a second chance for women in recovery or transitional situations.

This charity organization's motto is Revive. Reclaim. Reimagine.

I recently talked to founder Lisa James about why she started the program.  Lisa told me that a very good friend died of a drug overdose a few years ago and she was blindsided by the news.  Feeling shocked, she decided to take a course to learn more about the disease of addiction.

As part of her studies, Lisa started working with different women who just needed a second chance.  Lisa said she was inspired by these women who were working tirelessly to turn their lives around, and to choose recovery.

Lisa saw that there was a need for clothing for anything from job interviews to court dates to help give these women a fresh start.  She began collecting gently used clothing, shoes, purses and even jewelry for every occasion from dressy to casual.

Lisa says she has been overwhelmed with the response from the community who have contributed many donations:

"I love our community and feel the community owns The Rack as much as me!"

Lisa says that many of the women have lost a lot, if not everything. The goal of The Rack is to make them feel good about themselves and she wants them to feel spoiled for once!

If you have a chance to go through your closet, and have some gently used clothing or accessories, The Rack is accepting donations here.    You can also reach out to Lisa directly at Lisa.therack@gmail.com if you're in need or have any questionsl.

What a great idea, and I love seeing the community coming together to offer help and support!
