3 Months After a Seizure, I’m Driving My Car Again
3 months ago, I had a seizure, and how I did everything changed. Luckily, I have been recovering very well and am now able to drive my car again.
Maine State Law For Drivers Who Have Had Recent Seizures
Let me start by saying that the photo of the car above is not my car. There's no way I would drive a two-door car. The 80s are over. Most cars have four doors today. That's progress.
When I was released from the emergency room after an overnight stay to be monitored for my seizure, they told me that I was not able to drive a car until I had gone three months without another seizure. This is the law in Maine, and it makes perfect sense. If I had a seizure behind the wheel, not only would I be endangered, but I could also harm others on the road.
Luckily, I have been seizure-free for exactly three months as of August 5.
Back Behind the Wheel
You don't realize how much you depend on driving until it's taken away from you. I can tell you it makes day-to-day life a bit more difficult. You can't just jump in the car and go to the store to pick up a few things. You become dependent on those who live with you, like my girlfriend Michele.
She has been my chauffeur for three months, taking me to doctor appointments, making sure I take my medications, and just being there when things got tough. I would be lost without this woman, and I will never forget how she had my back, every step of the way.
So What Happens Next?
I'm waiting for my neurologist to give me the okay to go back to work in the studio. At the latest, I'll be back on WHOM in the studio on August 11. Hopefully before.
A big thanks to all the listeners who have reached out to me to see how I'm doing, and many who have offered help if I needed it. Luckily, Michele has that all taken care of, but the sentiment means a lot to me. I can't wait to get back to work!
