The Maine Christmas Song Is The Result Of One Man’s Boredom
Do you know the back-story of "The Maine Christmas Song"? It was born from a Portland news reporter's sheer boredom, according to News Center Maine. Bob Elliot was on assignment covering a piece about Christmas music in December 1986, when he reportedly came up with the idea for a "new Christmas song that Maine could call its own" as per News Center Maine. Elliot contacted songwriter Con Fullam that same month and got Maine actor Gary Merrill and local vocalist Malinda Liberty on board. The song came together very quickly, and has become a holiday staple in the Pine Tree State. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
