Summer is here and live music is FINALLY back in Maine! We get rolling again with a unique concert series starting up next week that features great local talent, fantastic venues, and a great community cause.
We had a bunch of concert announcements this week in New England. You remember concerts...when we all get together and go crazy with our favorite musicians? Making incredible memories with friends and sometimes, complete strangers! Rescheduled shows and some new shows have been announced at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, The Bank of NH Pavilion in Gilford, Rock Row in Westbrook, and Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor. And today the Boston Red Sox announces their Summer Concert Series. All of these Fenway dates are make-up dates from 2020. I hope you held on to your tickets! All the shows are tentative based on how the pandemic goes. But the fact that we may actually see LIVE MUSIC this summer warms my heart.
The now-defunct Scarborough Downs racetrack was known as one of the great harness racing tracks in America. But did you know that The Downs also hosted some pretty amazing concerts in its history? You might be surprised at who came to Scarborough! There are not a ton of shows (we count 6) but they were all high-caliber artists that ran the gamut of music genres. Country, Metal, Hip-Hop, The Downs saw it all!
The Portland Exposition Building, officially the James A. Banks Sr. Exposition Building, but known to most as "The Expo" opened in 1915. It's the second-oldest arena in continuous operation in the USA, which alone makes it pretty historic. We've all been to the Expo for a middle school track meet, car show, beer festival, or Red Claws game over the years, but the Expo has seen some pretty amazing events featuring historic figures.
Happy 74th birthday to Reginald Dwight, better known as Sir Elton John. Elton has sold over 300 MILLION albums and has been awarded 5 Grammys. He is one of the world's biggest superstars, so we should find ourselves lucky that the Rocketman has visited Maine six different times over the years for live concerts. He's been good to us!
