In case you weren't aware, Sunday, July 20, is National Ice Cream Day. Why it's not a national holiday with a day off is beyond me, because you need the day off to eat as much ice cream as you can fit in your pie hole.

Well, there's one local ice cream shop that's celebrating the day by filling your Stanley tumbler full of ice cream.

On Main Street in Saco, you'll find a local ice cream shop that began scooping in 2018. The Saco Scoop is situated in the former Atkinson's Furniture store, which occupied the building at 209 Main Street for over 75 years.

They also beat the record for Maine's longest banana split, coming in at a whopping 120 feet 3 inches long. These guys don't do anything small, and they have come up with something you won't want to miss.

National Ice Cream Day

The Saco Scoop is once again celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 20 by offering customers as much ice cream as they can stuff into their Stanley tumbler. For $15, they'll keep scooping ice cream and toppings into your tumbler until it's full to the brim. There are a few rules, though.

  • You're only allowed three toppings
  • Any brand tumbler must not be larger than 40 ounces
  • Your tumbler must be clean
