On Sunday, December 15, at 9:36 p.m., cameras at Smoked Restaurant in Windham caught what looked like a police chase from a movie.

Smoked in Windham is one of two Smoked locations, the other on Forest Avenue in Portland. They serve wings with their homemade sauces, down-home barbeque, smashed burgers, pulled pork, ribs, and a selection of beverages including locally brewed beer as well as the classic Coors and Miller Light.

By the way, this construction was being done in November of 2024. It's the best I could do.

Smoked posted a video on Facebook and Instagram of a police chase that comes to the intersection of Route 302 and River Road and it's all caught on Smoked's security cameras.

A car tried to evade three police cruisers by making a sharp right turn onto River Road, appearing to almost lose control before the driver regained control and headed northwest. The police were right on the driver's tail and then sped out of sight of the security cameras.

Suspect Eventually Captured

The video captured by Smoked included the theme to Cops, originally made famous by Inner Circle in 1987. This one however isn't the original, but a cover of some sort. No matter. It still fits.

According to WMTW Channel 8, the driver was identified as 19-year-old Dayton Hamilton, of Poland. He lost control of his vehicle at the roundabout between River and Windham Center roads. He was arrested for OUI, driving to endanger, eluding an officer, operating a motor vehicle without a license, criminal speed, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

One police cruiser was struck during the chase with minor damage and there were no injuries.
