Slices of Heaven: 50 Spots in Portland, Maine, to Get a Pizza
I'm not going to lie, I love pizza. It's unquestionably on the Mount Rushmore of comfort food. There's nothing like a few slices of the goods while you do practically anything. Ballgame? Pizza. Party? Pizza. Funeral? Pizza. Uncle Carl's arraignment? Pizza. It's always a perfect time for pizza.
Pizza is also extremely versatile. While people will always get behind the style they love, there's no "best" way. Because every way is the best way. Whether you've got thin crust, thick crust, Detroit style, cracker-thin, Greek style, bar pizza, pizza bagel, pizza rolls, even on English muffins, nothing beats some dough, a little sauce, cheese, and toppings.
With having such a pizza addiction, it's good to know I have so many options around. We Mainers are also lucky enough to have local chains, House of Pizza's, and legendary mom and pop shops across the state. For such a small state, the variety is high.
I was curious to see exactly how big of a variety there is in Maine's largest city, Portland. While it is the biggest, Portland's citywide population is just 68,000. However, with the suburbs and tourism, the numbers certainly skyrocket.
Mainers and tourists alike have a tremendous number of options to choose from in just Portland alone. Below is a list of 50 of those options. From James Beard nominees to variety stores to food trucks, Portland has a lot of great pizza to be had by all.
I must say, I have been to nearly all of these pizza joints. I don't know if I should be proud or see my doctor.
