Sam Smith Hints That He Will Be Doing the Next James Bond Theme Song
Update: Yep, it's official! Check out Sam's latest Instagram:
Sam Smith has dropped a major hint that he will be singing the theme song for the next James Bond film, titled Spectre, which will be released on Nov. 6 worldwide.
In an Instagram post shared today (Sept. 7), the British singer-songwriter cryptically posted a photo of a hand with a ring around a finger. The most-telling thing about the photo? Embroidered on the ring is an octopus - the logo of SPECTRE, the fictional evil corporation featured in the James Bond novels. SPECTRE appeared in many of the classic James Bond films, such as Dr. No and Thunderball and will be featured in the upcoming movie starring Daniel Craig.
Smith was previously rumored to be in contention for the Bond theme song along with Ellie Goulding and Radiohead. The Bond theme song has been a tradition with each of the previous 23 Bond films, which has featured artists such as Madonna, Adele, and Alicia Keys.
Spectre will be the fourth Bond film starring Craig as Agent 007, and will co-star Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Monica Belluci and Ralph Fiennes. The movie is directed by Sam Mendes, who previously helmed the 2012 Bond film Skyfall.
